Why Football-Specific Training Matters
Football training is a key part of longterm athletic development. At SMART Performance Training Centre & Clinic, we emphasize working with experienced coaches who understand the game and know how to guide athletes through each stage of their journey. Our environment is competitive and driven, with athletes across youth, high school, post-secondary, and professional levels training under one roof. Creating natural mentorship and a clear standard to strive toward.
We follow a structured, periodized approach, especially during the offseason when real development takes place. Athletes focus on building strength, speed, and resilience with purpose, ensuring they are fully prepared to perform when the season begins.
Evidence-Informed. Athlete-Centred.
At SMART, we don’t just put athletes through drills and call it training. Every program we design is grounded in evidence-informed principles — built around periodization, movement quality, progressive overload, and athlete monitoring. Before any athlete starts a program, we conduct a thorough movement and performance assessment to identify strengths, compensations, and areas of risk. This allows us to build a training plan that’s not only effective but safe.
Our coaching staff blends athletic performance expertise with clinical knowledge from our on-site clinic. That means we understand how the body moves, how it breaks down, and how to keep your athlete on the field and out of the physio office. We track training loads, monitor recovery, and adjust programming in real time based on how each athlete is responding — because what works on paper doesn’t always match what an athlete needs on a given week.
Train Hard. Stay on the Field.
Football is a physically demanding sport, and injuries are one of the biggest barriers to an athlete reaching their potential. At SMART, injury prevention isn’t an afterthought — it’s built directly into every program we design. Our clinical team works alongside our performance coaches to identify movement compensations and muscular imbalances before they become injuries. Common football-related injuries we help athletes prevent and recover from include ACL and knee injuries, hamstring and quad strains, ankle sprains, shoulder impingement, and lower back pain. Whether you’re coming back from an injury or trying to stay healthy through a long season, our integrated performance and clinical model means you have the right professionals in your corner at every step of the process.

FAQ FOR FOOTBALL
Everything you need to know before getting started with Smart Performance football programs.
What age groups do your football programs serve?
Our football training programs welcome athletes aged 8 and up, covering youth, high school, and adult competitive levels. Sessions are structured around each athlete’s physical and cognitive development stage. Younger athletes focus on foundational movement, coordination, and building a love for the game, while older athletes work on sport-specific strength, speed mechanics, and position-based skills. Every new athlete goes through an initial assessment so we can place them in the right group for their current fitness level and experience.
What's included in a typical training session?
A typical session at SMART Performance Training Centre & Clinic runs for 90 minutes and is built with purpose from start to finish. We begin with 30–45 minutes of a dynamic warm-up focused on movement quality, mobility, and preparation, followed by 45–60 minutes of structured training targeting speed, strength, power, and sport-specific development.
The environment is competitive, with athletes constantly pushing each other to improve. Coaching is hands on, attention to detail is high, and every session follows a clear structure designed to maximize performance and progression over time.
How do I know which program is right for my athlete?
We start with an assessment so our coaches can evaluate your child’s movement quality, strength baseline, and overall athletic ability. From there, we recommend the program that best fits their age, sport, goals, and training schedule. Whether they’re just getting started or preparing for the next level, there’s a clear, structured path for every athlete at SMART
Do you offer trial sessions or assessments?
No -an initial assessment is not required to get started. In certain scenarios, athletes are always welcome to join a drop in session and experience the training environment firsthand.
This gives athletes and their families the opportunity to meet the coaching staff, see how sessions are run, and understand the structure, coaching, and competitiveness at SMART before committing to a program.
What equipment do players need to bring?
Athletes should come dressed in comfortable athletic wear with athletic sneakers. We recommend bringing a water bottle and a light snack for longer sessions.
How often should my athlete train per week?
For meaningful progress, we recommend training 3 to 4 times per week. This allows athletes to consistently build strength, speed, and overall performance while still balancing school, sport practices, and recovery.
See yearly training phase sectionDo you train during the off-season?
Absolutely — the off-season is actually the most important time to train. It’s when athletes have the most time to develop foundational strength, correct movement deficiencies, and build the physical qualities that translate directly to better on-field performance when the season starts. Our off-season programs are periodized to peak athletes right when they need it most.
What makes SMART different from other football training centers?
At SMART Performance, the difference is in the details. Our coaching staff holds athletes to a high standard of discipline and accountability, ensuring every session is done with purpose. There’s structure behind everything we do, from how sessions are run to how athletes progress over time.
Our facility and competitive environment push athletes to be better every day. Surrounded by driven athletes across all levels, your child develops toughness, effort, and the right mindset needed to succeed. Not just in sport, but long term.
Can I train for multiple sports at the same facility?
Athletes can train for multiple sports at SMART Performance. Our programs are built around developing speed, strength, movement, and overall athleticism that transfers across all sports.
We tailor training to each athlete’s needs, ensuring they can perform at a high level in every sport they play while staying balanced, healthy, and progressing year-round.
